OpenAI is a company that makes smart computer programs called AI (Artificial Intelligence). On May 13th, they launched a new AI program called ChatGPT 4o. This new program can understand and respond to people's messages, kind of like a super-smart chatbot.
The special thing about ChatGPT 4o is that anyone can use it for free! This was a big deal because usually, only people who pay get to use the best AI programs.
The very next day, on May 14th, Google was holding a big event called I/O 2024. This event is where Google shows off its latest ideas and inventions.
Some people thought that OpenAI had launched ChatGPT 4o just before Google's event to steal the spotlight. But Sundar Pichai, the big boss at Google, didn't seem too worried.
When asked about it, he said that one event happening a day before doesn't really matter in the long run. He explained that AI is a really important technology, and Google has been working on it for a long time.
Pichai said that Google's main goal is to make AI that can help billions of people in their daily lives. He wants Google to stay focused on that mission, rather than worrying about what other companies are doing.
There were also some questions about whether OpenAI might have broken some of Google's rules by using their data to train ChatGPT 4o. Pichai didn't give a clear answer, but he said that Google has rules, and they'll make sure companies understand and follow them.
Meanwhile, some people are accusing OpenAI of using other people's content without permission to train their AI programs. This is not allowed, and OpenAI might be getting into trouble for doing this.
In the end, Pichai and Google seem confident in their own AI work and don't want to get too distracted by what other companies like OpenAI are doing. They want to keep working hard to make AI that can truly help people around the world.
